InterPRO, teaming with Repliform, offers RP models that are electroplated with copper and/or nickel to enhance appearance, strength, environmental stability or provide EMI shielding.

The model is finished to a high quality level, and a conductive layer is applied via electroless nickel or conductive paint. The model is then electroplated with copper, followed by a top coat of nickel. Appearance parts can be polished to a bright finish (right doorknob), sanded to get a brushed finish (left doorknob) or left with a standard matte finish texture. The copper or copper/nickel coating can provide a good base to apply other decorative finishes such as chrome, brass, silver or gold.

Parts coated for structural reinforcement will have properties that are a composite of the underlying model and the metal coating, factoring the volume of each material. Relatively thin metal layers are sufficient to provide a high level of EMI shielding or environmental protection.
